Frequently asked questions

Is this a skip-the-line ticket?

Your access shift is reserved before you arrive, so you go straight to the gatehouse at your booked time instead of queuing at the ticket desk. On busy weekends and school holidays the earlier shifts are the first to fill, so arriving with a confirmed slot is what saves the wait.

Do I need to visit at a specific time?

Yes. Hoensbroek Castle sells entry by timed access shift, so your ticket is for a specific arrival window rather than open all day. We secure your shift and send you the time; please arrive by the start of your window so you're not held at the gate.

What's included in the ticket?

Self-guided access to all four wings of the castle — the period rooms, the round tower dating to around 1360, the dungeon and the moat walk — on the route the museum lays out for visitors. Allow around 90 minutes to two hours to see it properly.

Is the visit guided or self-guided?

Self-guided. You move through the castle's rooms, towers and dungeon at your own pace on the marked route, with information panels along the way. There's no fixed tour group to keep up with.

How and when do I get my ticket?

We send your ticket to your email as a mobile ticket with a QR code once your booking is confirmed. There's nothing to print — show it on your phone at the gatehouse.

How do I get to the castle?

Hoensbroek has its own railway station a short walk from the castle, with connections via Heerlen and Sittard. By car it's about 25 km from Maastricht and roughly 30 km from Aachen, with free parking on site.

How long does the visit take?

Most visitors spend 90 minutes to two hours moving through the four wings, towers and dungeon. Add time for the on-site brasserie or a walk around the moat, and a half-day at Hoensbroek is easy to fill.

Is Hoensbroek Castle good for children?

Yes. The dungeon, the towers and the sheer scale of the moated courtyard tend to be the highlights for children. Children under 4 enter free and don't need a ticket; the child ticket covers ages 4–17, and the family card covers 2 adults plus 2 children on one booking.

Do children under 4 need a ticket?

No. Children under 4 enter free and you don't need to book anything for them. The child ticket is for ages 4 to 17, and the family card (2 adults + 2 children 4–17) is usually the better-value option for a family of four.

What does the family card cover?

The family card covers exactly 2 adults and 2 children aged 4 to 17 on one timed access shift, priced below buying four separate tickets. If your group doesn't match that composition, book the individual adult and child tickets instead.

Is the castle wheelchair accessible?

Largely, yes — a lift reaches the upper floors including the 17th-century attic film room, with an alternative film presentation for visitors who can't manage every staircase. The site does have many original steps overall, so allow extra time and expect some areas may be harder to reach.

Can I bring my dog?

No, other than registered service animals. Hoensbroek Castle doesn't permit pets inside.

Is there somewhere to eat?

Yes — an on-site brasserie serves food and drinks, and there's a museum shop for souvenirs, so you can make a full half-day of it without leaving the grounds.

Can I change my mind after booking?

Because your ticket is for a specific timed access shift, please choose your date and shift with care. All sales are final once confirmed; refunds apply only if the castle itself cancels or fails to open on your booked date. See our terms for the full policy.

Are you the official castle ticket office?

No. We're an independent concierge service for international visitors. We obtain genuine tickets on your behalf from the official box office and handle the booking in your own language. Our service fee is included in the price shown, and you can always buy directly from the castle if you prefer.

What currency am I charged in?

The price you see is the price you pay — we show it in your local currency where we can and charge exactly that amount, with no surprise fees at checkout. Payment is by card on a secure page.
